Iowa Mtn. Bike Championship Series Schedule

By Cam Kirkpatrick

The Iowa Mountain Bike Championship Series (IMBCS) announces dates for 2012. There are a great series of events lined up for the 2012 season, featuring a total of 10 races. Please note that there are more races being held on Saturday than in years past!

Like last year, we will be doing a couple of joint efforts with two different state series. The first, IMBCS #1, being the I-74 Homegrown Series Opener at Sylvan Island in Moline, IL on April 15. The second one (IMBCS #7) being a part of the Nebraska Psycowpath Series which will be held at Manawa State Park in Council Bluffs, IA on August 11.

Camp Ingawanis returns to the schedule hosting two events like last year, on two great courses. IMBCS #2 will be held on the north course on May 19. The second race will be on the south course on August 19. Ida Grove returns as IMBCS #3 on the schedule on June 9. Ida Grove has been the least attended race of the series every year and we would love to see that change. Every person that has ridden the course has nothing but great things to say about the course and the race.

After a one year hiatus, Banner Pits returns to the IMBCS as race #4 on June 23. One major change in this race is that it will be hosted by Rasmussen Bike Shop. The CITA crew have always done a great job with the race. Rick Blackford and the rest of the Rassy crew have a tall order to duplicate the quality of race that CITA puts on, and they are more than capable of doing so!

Race #5 will be at a venue that is new to the IMBCS. Beverly Park, in Cedar Falls, is an established venue that has held a lot of smaller, local races in the past and should be a great addition to the IMBCS for 2012 on July 1. Race #6 will be held at one of the oldest IMBCS venues, Seven Oaks, on August 5. Seven Oaks has established the reputation as being one of the toughest courses in the series. The course offers a little something for everyone!

IMBCS #9 will be at another course that has the reputation of being tough. Sugarbottom has been the location of the one of the oldest races in Iowa, the Sugarbottom Scramble, and is always one of the best attended races of the year.

The series finale, IMBCS #10, will once again be held at one of the newest and most popular venues on the schedule on October 7. Lake Aqhuabi State Park is one of the most beginner friendly courses on the schedule, while at the same time managing to pose plenty of challenges for even the most advanced racer. Last years race topped 150 participants and the party atmosphere made for a great way to cap off the season!
